Our Intervention Research Grants support projects that will develop and test, or inform a new health promotion program or policy intervention. We will provide up to $120,000 per annum for three years and up to $150,000 per annum for the year/s the intervention will be developed.  We offer two funding rounds for intervention grants per year – one targeted round that opens each October and one open round that opens each June.

Our Exploratory Research Grants support exploratory or formative studies to address gaps in health promotion research, demonstrating the potential to influence health promotion in WA. We will provide up to $75,000 over two years for these grants which may lead to the development of larger studies to trial interventions. We offer two funding rounds for exploratory grants per year – one targeted round that opens each October and one open round that opens each June.

Our Research Fellowship grants are designed to increase the number of experienced and trained researchers in WA working in health promotion research. Applicants can apply for a Postdoctoral Early Career or Senior Research Fellowship for up to three years to undertake their research. We offer one funding round for Research Fellowships per year, which opens in February. 

Our Research Training Scholarships are designed to increase the number of experienced and trained practitioners and researchers in WA working in health promotion research. Applicants can apply for up to two years to undertake a master’s degree or three years for a doctoral degree. The research component of the training must demonstrate the potential to influence health promotion practice in WA. Requests for Research Training Scholarships are accepted all year round but must be received at Healthway a minimum of five months prior to commencement of the research studies.

Aboriginal Research Training Scholarships are designed to increase the number of experienced and trained Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners and researchers in WA, working to promote health in Aboriginal communities. The scholarships will support graduates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent to undertake a postgraduate course focusing on Aboriginal health. This may include a graduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, honours, masters, or doctoral degree. Requests for Aboriginal Research Training Scholarships are accepted all year round but must be received at Healthway a minimum of five months prior to commencement of the research studies.

Visiting Fellow grants are for organisations wishing to bring a leading expert in health promotion research or practice to WA for up to three months. The primary focus of the Fellows visit should be to work closely with key health promotion teams to support and inform their work, and to increase the skills and expertise for delivering evidence-based health promotion across WA.
