- Events or activities associated with boxing, or any activity that allows the deliberate targeting of the head within the rules.

Applicants may request any amount of sponsorship they consider appropriate. Healthway sponsorships have ranged from as little as $1,000 to over $1 million. Sponsorship applications are segmented into three categories, with slightly different application and acquittal requirements for each category: Under $5,000; $5,000-$50,000; and over $50,000. All applications are carefully assessed and offers of sponsorship take into account the commercial market value and the health promotion value of the sponsorship opportunity. Applicants are advised not to under or over-estimate the sponsorship request. It is important that organisations applying for sponsorship have a good understanding of Healthway’s purpose, priorities, objectives and policies. The primary purpose of Healthway sponsorship is to promote health campaign messages to Healthway priority groups. It is therefore especially important for applicants to consider the likely audience and opportunities available to Healthway to promote a health message in association with your event or activities.

Absolutely. Healthway sponsorship staff members are keen to work with you and can be contacted. Organisations should not discuss their applications directly with individual Healthway Board or Committee members. Members of the Board and Committees are bound by a Code of Conduct that addresses matters such as lobbying and conflicts of interest. Discussing your application with a Board or Committee member may result in the member having to declare a conflict in respect to your application.

Applications for sponsorship can be made at any time but must be received by Healthway at least four months prior to the start of the sponsored activity or event for all sponsorship requests of $5,000 or over, or three months in the case of applications under $5,000. These deadlines will be strictly applied. Organisations are advised to submit their application as early as possible and well before the minimum cut-off period. Sponsorship of an annual program of events or activities will generally be aligned with either the calendar year (January to December) or financial year (July to June) and will have an application deadline published on the Healthway website.
Healthway receives over 1,000 applications for sponsorship every year and the sponsorship program is highly competitive. The sponsorship approval rate does vary, however over 50% of applications will typically receive an offer of sponsorship.
Healthway will generally not provide organisations with more than one sponsorship per year, so applicants seeking support for multiple programs or events should plan ahead and include all activities in an application for annual sponsorship. In exceptional circumstances where an organisation might run two very different types of events, for example a community program and an elite championship, more than one application in a 12 month period may be accepted.
Generally around four months, though some decisions may take longer. Please allow sufficient time for promotion and marketing of the sponsored event or activity, as inadequate lead-time may reduce the chances of your application being successful.
Sponsorships over $5,000 in value are reviewed by an Advisory Committee and approved by the Board of Healthway. Sponsorships under $5,000 are approved by Healthway’s Executive Director.
Can I apply for another sponsorship, if I haven’t provided a final report and acquitted the last sponsorship?
Yes. We understand that it is not always practical to acquit a current sponsorship before applying for another sponsorship. We will however need to consider what stage your current sponsorship is at and why it hasn’t been acquitted. Any decision on a new sponsorship request will take this information into consideration. Any sponsorship older than one year that has not been acquitted must be finalised prior to any new sponsorship being assessed.

All Healthway Sponsorship Agreements include conditions regarding sponsorship benefits and other general requirements e.g. insurance requirements. All sponsored organisations will also need to comply with Minimum Health Policy Requirements relating to issues such as smoking, alcohol and healthy food.
Sponsorship may also be offered on condition that your organisation reduces or discontinues other sponsorship arrangements. Typically these conditions will relate to sponsorship promotions for alcohol or unhealthy foods and drinks. There is good evidence that promotions for alcohol and unhealthy foods can have a significant influence on harmful alcohol consumption and obesity. For this reason, it is an explicit objective of the Healthway sponsorship program to reduce alcohol and unhealthy food sponsorship promotions where possible. Yes. Healthway sponsorship contracts will generally restrict organisations from entering into new sponsorship agreements resulting in the promotion of alcohol or unhealthy foods and drinks. Sponsored organisations are required to seek approval from Healthway prior to entering into new agreements resulting in the promotion of any foods or beverages. This requirement is necessary to ensure organisations do not enter into new arrangements (during the term of their Healthway sponsorship) that would have had a material bearing on the assessment of their application.
Will Healthway require my organisation to promote a health message as part of a sponsorship agreement?
Generally yes. The promotion of health messages is the primary focus of the Healthway sponsorship program and most sponsored organisations are required to promote a health message. The extent of opportunities to promote a health message is an important factor in determining the value of the sponsorship to Healthway.
No. The matching of a health message to a sponsorship is determined by Healthway and will usually be advised at the time the sponsorship is offered.
No. Healthway policies do not prevent organisations serving alcohol in accordance with liquor legislation requirements and Healthway Minimum Health Policy Requirements.
Will Healthway restrict the capacity of my organisation to accept sponsorship from the local hotel or restaurant?
No. Healthway policies do not prevent sponsorship by licensed premises such as hotels or restaurants, provided there are no associated promotions for alcohol products.
Alcohol promotions can take many different forms. Logo placement, verbal acknowledgement, branded merchandise and clothing, product tastings, competitions, product placement, advertising and website links are all forms of promotion. No. Modest point-of-sale promotions such as branding on fridges, bar taps and menu boards are not restricted under Healthway sponsorship arrangements.
All Healthway sponsored events and activities are required to be maintained as smoke-free, in accordance with the Minimum Health Policy Requirements. Healthway expects sponsored organisations to use their best endeavors to maintain all events under their control as smoke free. Infrequent breaches of the smoke free requirement will not put the sponsorship at risk, provided the organisation is acting in good faith and taking every effort possible to maintain the event as smoke free.
Healthway provides written advice on the outcome of all applications for sponsorship, usually within 1-2 weeks of the decision. Letters to successful applicants will outline the amount of sponsorship offered, the health message to be promoted, and any special conditions of the sponsorship offer.
Healthway sponsorships are paid through an electronic funds transfer. Sponsorship payments will be made once the offer of sponsorship has been formally accepted and the sponsorship agreement signed. Most sponsorships will incorporate a milestone payment schedule, where part payments are made on the satisfactory completion of sponsorship milestones.

Organisations are strongly advised to review the point 10 on page 5 of the sponsorship guidelines.
Healthway approves sponsorship on the basis of information provided in the application. The sponsorship may be withdrawn should circumstances arise where a sponsored event cannot proceed as proposed in the application, or the sponsorship benefits as proposed in the application are no longer available. Monies already paid in relation to the event may need to be repaid. Healthway may consider other sponsorship opportunities to be substituted as an alternative to the originally sponsored event/s, if they are assessed as providing health promotion returns of similar value and occur within a similar time period.
